Buckingham Palace has yet to disclose the cause of death for Queen Elizabeth II

Followers of the royal family were left reeling from the death of Queen Elizabeth II. However, some questions remain as the mourning begins.

Buckingham Palace has not disclosed the cause of death for the Queen after she passed away Thursday, CNN reported. The only official word was that the 96-year-old died "peacefully" at the home of the royal family.

"The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon," the official statement said. "The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

Succeeding her on the throne is her 73-year-old son, Charles, who will take the name, King Charles III. Just a half-hour after her death, the official social media account of the palace released a statement "from His Majesty The King."

"The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family," Charles wrote in his statement. "We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother," the late Queen's eldest son continued.

"I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world. During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held," Charles said.

The Queen had missed several public appearances since her bout with COVID-19 in February, Time reported. Although she recovered, she was not well and suffered mobility challenges that caused her to miss events, including those thrown in her own honor during her Platinum Jubilee celebration commemorating her 70th anniversary as Queen.

Although she was advanced in age, the death of the Queen is still a significant event. It's noteworthy that Buckingham Palace is being so tight-lipped about the cause.
