In the wake of a debunked narrative that accused Border Patrol agents of whipping Haitian migrants at the southern border, President Joe Biden effectively declared war on the very public servants charged with protecting the nation’s sovereignty, leaving them shocked and justifiably angry, as Fox News reports.
Last week, a firestorm erupted when images of Border Control agents on horseback emerged, which many on the left erroneously – and disingenuously – claimed depicted whips being used to direct groups of migrants who had massed near Del Rio, Texas.
Even though the photographer who shot the images in question came forth publicly to state that he did not witness any whips being used against migrants and that what the agents held in their hands were actually reins to control their horses, Biden weighed in on the matter in his characteristically misguided and utterly incendiary manner.
Commenting on the situation on Friday, the president declared, “To see people treated like they did, horses barely running over, people being strapped – it’s outrageous. I promise you, those people will pay. There will be an investigation underway now and there will be consequences. There will be consequences,” as Fox News reported separately.
Unsurprisingly, Border Patrol agents who heard Biden’s remarks were aghast at his characterization of events, with one agent telling Fox News, “Would you go to work and do your best knowing that if you do your boss is going to ‘make you pay’? I’m dumbfounded and don’t know what to say.”
Another agent echoed those sentiments and added, “I see the administration wants to fry our agents. He just started a war with Border Patrol.”
Head of the National Border Patrol Council, Brandon Judd, explained just how ill-advised and unfair the president’s statement was, opining, “Now that the President of the United States has already said they did wrong, how is an investigator supposed to do a true and honest investigation?”
Judd continued, labeling Biden’s uninformed take on what occurred “completely and totally outrageous,” adding that “[the president] is playing politics with Border Patrol agents’ lives… .”
Immediately recognizing the gross injustice of the entire situation, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) made the wholly noble and appropriate gesture of informing any Border Patrol agent who is worried about repercussions from the Biden administration for simply doing their job that he is ready and willing to hire them himself “to help Texas secure our border.”
