Democrats have used immigration as a political club. Meanwhile, it comes with a hefty humanitarian pricetag.
According to Border Patrol Del Rio Chief Patrol Agent Austin Skero, 49 people have died while attempting to cross the border in his jurisdiction, Breitbart reported. In addition over a thousand were reduced from drowning — but President Joe Biden is apparently uninterested in doing anything to stop this.
“So, so far this year, we’ve rescued about 1,300 people,” Skero told Fox Business Network host Neil Cavuto on “Cavuto: Coast to Coast” Tuesday. “Sadly though, we’ve lost about 49 to either exposure in the brush or to drownings,” he said.
“It’s a very dangerous river to cross,” Skero added about the Rio Grande which separates Mexico and the U.S. “People think that it’s easy. Because they see people walking in ankle-deep water but you’ve got gravel bars and silt bottoms and people slip and people can drown.”
Thousands have flooded the border since January and created an ongoing humanitarian crisis for President Joe Biden. In March, Vice President Kamala Harris was put in charge of solving the problem but has yet to even visit, instead claiming that she prefers to focus on the “root causes” of immigration, according to Fox News.
Harris made a trip down to Guatemala last weekend supposedly to that end. However, she persists in pushing back against calls for her to see the problem for herself in the U.S.
California GOP Rep. Darrell Issa invited Harris to see for himself, publicly calling her out for her skewed priorities. “Nothing changed in the last six months in Guatemala, Honduras or El Salvador. All the changes were in the United States. It was who was president and what was the policies at the border,” Issa said. “To look for root causes is fine, but to look for the change that led to more than 100,000 people a month being admitted to the U.S. … that is this administration, not the root causes.”
The border is a mess, and Democrats are squarely to blame. Even if they can somehow explain away the influx of people coming in, they can’t deny that Harris hasn’t lifted a finger to stop it — and that inaction has been deadly for many.
