Accusations that Dr. Anthony Fauci lied about why the previous administration halted funds to a Chinese lab have been making headlines, according to Conservatively.
Fauci made his statement on Sunday saying denying he had any knowledge of why former President Donald Trump cut the funding to the lab that is accused of releasing the COVID-19 virus into the world.
The White House chief medical advisor initially attempted to stop Trump’s order to halt funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology in April 2020, according to an upcoming book.
Fauci, who is the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, had a professional connection to the lab and was consistently against blaming the lab for the worldwide pandemic.
The nationally known doctor told a House committee in June that he ‘didn’t know the reason’ behind the then-president’s decision to halt the funds going to the Wuhan lab.
However, Fauci, still functioning as the White House chief medical advisor under the Biden administration, has since made comments where he contradicted his own quote, saying that he knew why Trump made the decision to cut the lab’s funding.
The halt was made “out of concern about the lab’s safety record and fears it was the source of the COVID pandemic.”
Details surrounding the questionable behavior are included in the new book ‘Nightmare Scenario: Inside the Trump Administration’s Response to the Pandemic That Changed History’ by Washington Post journalists Yasmeen Abutaleb and Damian Paletta.
Lawmakers are unhappy with the revelation that they’ve been lied to, including Rep. Buddy Carter, (R-GA) who told Fox News: ‘Dr. Fauci is so obsessed with maintaining his own relevance and downplaying President Trump’s role in combatting this crisis that he’s once again been caught lying.”
