Bill Barr is one of the few public officials besides President Trump that is willing to say it like it is, and we love him for it.
Barr appeared on Mark Levin’s Fox TV show over the weekend and specifically called out the media for creating a ‘doomsday scenario’ that led to the marshaling of government power against then-candidate Trump in the 2016 election.
“It is the doomsday scenario of abuse of government power, which is the party in power uses the police and intelligence services to tilt the field against their political opponents. And that’s terrible from a governmental and civil rights standpoint.”
“The media was part of this, and that’s, to me, probably the worst aspect of this. The so-called watchdogs of the system — they became attack dogs. They weren’t watchdogs. They had no critical — they didn’t use any critical faculties.”
“In fact, some things that were clearly preposterous, they took hook, line, and sinker, and they fanned the flames of this worse than anybody else…They all got out on the limb. The limb has been sawed off, but you wouldn’t know it, because there’s, you know, they don’t even say, ‘Whoops, we got that one wrong.’ They’re onto the next conspiracy theory.”
I can’t think of a worse combination – a partisan press and a corrupt Obama administration. Together, they conspired to take down a candidate for the presidency.
They failed, but there should be consequences for that abuse of power. It’s up to Barr, and his special prosecutor John Durham, to ensure that happens.
