President Joe Biden is incompetent in his own right. However, the only thing he apparently excels at is picking the worst person for the job every time.
Steven Bondy, Biden’s pick for ambassador to Bahrain, has a history of making “disparaging remarks about Arabs,” Newsmax reported. The Senate confirmed Bondy, a State Department veteran, earlier this month.
Bondy was deployed around the Middle East during the Trump administration, including in the United Arab Emirates. During his time at the U.S. embassy there in 2018, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan took notice of Bondy’s conduct noting ”he treats his people like garbage,” according to a White House aide familiar with the situation.
Fast forward to December, and others have come out of the woodwork with similar assessments. ”I came forward after retirement upon hearing of his nomination,” Brig. Gen. Miguel Correa said to Politico. ”I wanted the facts to come out in the public for our leaders to see the entire picture. I would hear him say disparaging remarks about Arabs all the time,” Correa claimed.
Victoria Coates, who worked alongside Bondy and is friendly with Correa, said that there was a time she witnessed Bondy being ”dismissive of Middle Eastern staff.” Both she and Correa claimed to have “heard Bondy use insulting and prejudicial or racist remarks about Arabs,” according to Politico.
Bondy told the outlet in a statement that he “vehemently and categorically” denies their claims. ”I have dedicated my career to representing the United States and its interests in the Middle East. I have a deep and abiding respect for the peoples and cultures of the Middle East and harbor none of the prejudices attributed to me.”
In a position where tact and diplomacy are paramount, such accusations could sink Bondy’s ambassadorship before it even begins. It’s unfortunate but not unexpected considering some of his other picks.
The president chose Pete Buttigieg as transportation secretary despite his failure to fix potholes in the small town of Southbend, Indiana, where he served as mayor, Fox News reported. Biden did even worse when choosing his second-in-command, Vice President Kamala Harris, who is so awful, her disapproval is at 52% and likely climbing, the LA Times reported.
Being a terrible president is a full-time job for Biden. However, where he really stands out is picking people for his administration who have no business in such positions of power.
