Biden to visit Europe to discuss Ukraine and NATO

President Joe Biden plans to travel to Europe next week, the White House announced on Tuesday.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki made the announcement regarding Biden’s trip to Brussels, Belgium, to attend a NATO summit and European Council Summit.

“The president is a big believer in face-to-face diplomacy so it’s an opportunity to do exactly that,” Psaki said.

Biden last traveled to Europe in June 2021.

“This war has turned nearly 3 million Ukrainians into refugees. That’s on top of more than 12 million people who require humanitarian assistance inside Ukraine,” Biden said on Tuesday.

“The United States is helping to lead a global humanitarian response with our partners in Europe and beyond,” he added.

The plan also follows a visit to eastern Europe by Vice President Kamala Harris in February. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began shortly after her visit with European leaders.
