Presumptive Democrat nominee just made a major decision in regard to the selection of a potential running mate.
Rumors have been swirling for weeks that failed 2020 candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) was at the top of the list for Biden, and those rumors were just confirmed by CBS campaign reporter Bo Erickson.
“News: Sen. @amyklobuchar has officially been asked by @JoeBiden to undergo vetting to be considered for his VP, sources tell @CBSNews,” Erickson tweeted on Thursday.
The vetting process delves deep into a potential candidate’s personal and professional life, unearthing any potential scandals or weaknesses before an official decision is made.
Biden pledged to pick a female running mate months ago, and speculation about who he may choose has run the gamut from Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacy Abrams to failed 2020 candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) since then.
Rumors about Biden potentially choosing Klobuchar exploded right after Super Tuesday in February, when the Minnesota Democrat slipped up while stumping for Biden, saying she “couldn’t think of a better way to end my candidacy than join the ticket…”
She quickly corrected herself, but the rumor mill was already hard at work.
Klobuchar has yet to confirm or deny the bombshell claim.
