Biden suggests banning ‘high-caliber weapons’ following Texas shooting

President Joe Biden suggested that high-caliber weapons, including 9mm handguns, should be banned following last week’s Texas school shooting.

Biden made the remarks on Monday after returning from a visit to Robb Elementary School in Uvalde where 19 students and two teachers were killed by a shooter on Tuesday.

“They said a .22-caliber bullet will lodge in the lung, and we can probably get it out — may be able to get it and save the life. A 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body,” Biden said.

“So, the idea of these high-caliber weapons is, uh, there’s simply no rational basis for it in terms of self-protection, hunting,” Biden added. “Remember, the Constitution was never absolute.”

The new comments come as the Senate considers whether Democrats and Republicans can come to any agreement regarding appropriate gun law changes that could help stop future shootings.

The shooting is certainly something everyone wants to stop, but efforts to do so vary widely, with the Biden administration ready to change Second Amendment rights to do so.
