Biden reportedly wants Trump prosecuted in a speedy manner

According to a recent report from The Blaze, President Joe Biden told multiple individuals that he wants former President Donald Trump to be prosecuted by the Department of Justice.

The report leaked to The New York Times on Saturday and comes as Democrats in Washington appear to be putting increased pressure on the Justice Department to look into Trump and his allies over the event surrounding the disturbance on Capitol Hill on Jan. 6 of last year.

According to The Blaze, the Times said that Attorney General Merrick Garland has been taking a “deliberate approach” that “has come to frustrate Democratic allies of the White House and, at times, President Biden himself” during his still-ongoing investigation into the January 6 incident.

“As recently as last year, Mr. Biden confided to his inner circle that he believed former President Donald J. Trump was a threat to democracy and should be prosecuted,” the Times said.

The president has recently stated that he is frustrated with the attorney general’s slow-and-steady approach, according to the reports swirling around the incident, and the president wants the issue to be expedited.

“While the president has never communicated his frustrations directly to Mr. Garland, he has said privately that he wanted Mr. Garland to act less like a ponderous judge and more like a prosecutor who is willing to take decisive action over the events of Jan. 6,” the Times said.

At this time, however, it remains unclear what Trump would be prosecuted for as the allegations against him and his compatriots seem to be vague.

“The United States House Select Committee that is charged with investigating the January 6 incident says that its investigators have reason to believe that Trump and his associates’ broke multiple laws in efforts to overturn the 2020 election,'” according to The Blaze.

The publication also cited a legal brief filed early in March that the committee suggested that it had “evidence showing that Trump may have engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States, illegally impeding Congress’s counting of electoral votes, and lying to the public.”
