The situation at the border is terrible and getting worse. Now another key makes it clear it’s only about to get worse.
Biden’s senior migration advisor Tyler Moran has announced he will resign at the end of January, Fox News reported. Though the administration claims he wasn’t planning to stay past a year anyway, this is the second time this same position was vacated with the same excuse.
“Tyler has been an invaluable member of our team since the transition and a tremendous asset in our effort to rebuild a fair and humane immigration system,” Susan Rice, chief domestic policy advisor to Biden, said in a statement. The administration said it was predetermined, but Amy Pope, whom Moran had replaced in July, left supposedly under the same circumstances.
“Amy had always intended to join the Biden Administration for a short time with an expected departure in the mid-summer,” the White House had claimed. Moreover, Pope’s departure had come on the heels of Roberta Jacobson’s exit that April in her role as head of Mexico–United States border affairs.
One after another, these resignations come as there is a glut of illegal immigrants crossing into the U.S. virtually unimpeded. The Biden administration oversaw the number of illegals soaring in June 2021 to a high of 213,593 — double of the numbers who crossed the year before under former President Donald Trump.
The most visible sign of the administration’s incompetence is the inability of Vice President Kamala Harris, who was named border tsar in March, to do anything substantive about it, the New York Post reported. Harris was supposedly focused on the broader issues that drive people to leave their home countries in Central America in the first place.
Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei recently told Fox News that Harris was yet to reach out to him despite her promise to fix conditions to stem the tide of immigrants. The White House denied that account, but it’s easy to believe given her apathy toward the situation all along.
Biden can’t secure the border and can’t keep anyone long enough who can do anything about it. The people in his administration likely know there will be a political reckoning and may be choosing to jump ship to avoid the fallout.
