Whether due to worsening cognitive decline, rank hypocrisy, or a combination of both, the commander in chief is having difficulty adhering to the public health edicts he has imposed on the rest of the country.
As Breitbart reports, during a White House event commemorating Equal Pay Day, President Joe Biden strode to the podium sporting a mask, removed it to address the audience and sign an official proclamation, and departed the room bare-faced, in the latest example of him falling flat on his face after touting strict standards for everyone else. Readers will recall that one of Biden’s very first acts as president was to issue an executive order making mask wearing compulsory on federal property to combat the spread of COVID-19, declaring that the move was “not a political statement,” but “a patriotic act,” as Politico noted.
However, just hours later, Biden himself was famously seen without a face covering while speaking at an event at the Lincoln Memorial, as Newsweek reported. When questioned about the apparent double standard, Biden’s team dismissively replied that there were “bigger issues to worry about.”
The president has a history of forgetfulness when it comes to the coronavirus mitigation habit he demands all other Americans observe, with Breitbart also noting several other occasions on which he has removed his mask and gone about his business unbothered.
After signing his name to the behemoth American Rescue Plan and delivering remarks in an Oval Office photo-op, Biden failed to put a mask back on his face, stuffing it in his suit coat pocket instead. Similar conduct was noted at a White House event marking International Women’s Day, when Vice President Kamala Harris had to remind Biden to grab his mask after he abandoned on the dais.
Biden is not the only member of his administration suffering from mask compliance challenges, as White House climate envoy John Kerry was photographed on an American Airlines flight earlier this month with his face mask dangling off of one ear, in apparent contravention of the president’s February executive order mandating them on public modes of interstate travel.
While Biden’s maskless moments may not result in an especially dire physical risk to those around him, these incidents perfectly encapsulate the “rules for thee, but not for me” philosophy that regrettably characterizes many of those currently in power.
