Amid the spread of a false narrative surrounding the purported use by Border Patrol agents of whips to control Haitian immigrants massed at the U.S. southern border, the Biden administration announced Thursday that the agency would halt the use of horses altogether in in the Del Rio, Texas area, according to CNBC.
The move was revealed by White House press secretary Jen Psaki who explained to reporters on Thursday that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas informed a group of civil rights leaders that the use of horses would stop.
Psaki noted that President Joe Biden found images that some interpreted as depicting border agent grabbing a Haitian migrant by the clothing while on horseback to be sufficiently troubling as to require official action, as Breitbart reported.
In explaining the policy change, Psaki added, “I think people should take away that his actions make clear how horrible and horrific these images are, including an investigation, including a change of policy, including conveying clearly that this is not acceptable, and he’s not going to stand for this in the Biden-Harris administration.”
Perennial far-left flamethrower Joy Reid of MSNBC used the controversy to further a spurious notion that the leather straps seen in the images were not, in fact, reins to control the agents’ horses, but rather were whips used to injure the migrants, according to Fox News.
“Very quickly, I know funding for the government begins in the house. Should we be looking at the budget for Homeland Security? Because I was not aware that whips which come from the slave era, slavery era, were part of the package that we issue to any sort of law enforcement or government sanction personnel,” Reid remarked.
Seizing the opportunity to take a broader swipe at those charged with enforcing immigration law, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) held forth in her characteristically profane manner, tweeting, “This is so sick and CPB will continue to commit human rights abuses if we don’t stop it now,” adding, “Cracking a f****** whip on Haitians fleeing hardship shows you that this system simply can’t be reformed.”
Vice President Kamala Harris entered the fray as well, saying she was “human beings should never be treated that way” and that she was “deeply troubled” by the images she saw, according to Breitbart, despite the fact that as of March, she has been the person supposedly in charge of all things related to the the southern border.
Unsurprisingly, none of the manufactured outrage seems to take into account the fact that Mayorkas himself, together with Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz denied that whips of any sort were used on anyone, and a Border Patrol agent told Fox News Digital that he and his colleagues simply do not carry whips, and “the only thing I see in their hands is reins.”
