Biden announces press conference to mark one year in office

President Joe Biden is scheduled to hold a formal press conference at the White House on Wednesday to mark the first year of his term as president.

“The president looks forward to speaking directly to the American people,” White Hous Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in the announcement.

The news comes following a rough week for Biden. The president lost hope of passing a voting reform bill in the Senate after also losing on plans to pass the Build Back Better plan.

In addition, 2021 was marked by the highest inflation in nearly 40 years, high gas prices, worker shortages and surging COVID-19 cases. Biden also faced criticisms over supply chain issues, the border crisis and Afghanistan.

Despite his past claims that he would end the virus, more people died in 2021 from COVID-19 than in 2020 with Donald Trump was president.

The press conference also comes as the president has held fewer interviews and press conferences than previous presidents, often walking away from reporters without answering questions.
