Biden and Harris forced walk back criticism of Trump’s decision to refill oil reserves

Vice President Kamala Harris was contradicted by President Joe Biden on Tuesday when the Commander-in-Chief decided to raid the oil reserves earlier this week. Harris’s contradiction will no doubt create yet another point of contention between the President and Vice-President.

According to Breitbart News the Vice President slammed then-President Donald Trump in 2020 for refilling those reserves near the end of his term in office in 2020.

“Absolutely unacceptable that Trump is prioritizing bailing out Big Oil companies while dragging his feet to support millions of unemployed people, workers, small businesses, and state and local governments,” Harris tweeted in 2020 during the pandemic.

The reserves were refilled during the pandemic when prices were at astonishingly low rates during the pandemic. Tuesday’s national average of $3.403 (according to AAA) is a stark comparison.

Last year’s particularly low prices were almost to the point of threatening the American oil producers’ ability to compete with OPEC and their seemingly everlasting monetary reserves.

“Once this straightens out, and once you get some demand and then you’re gonna reduce the supply a little bit it’ll equalize and be great again,” Trump said in April of 2020. “We want to remain independent.”

But all of that turned out to be for the best when its was announced on Tuesday that the Biden-Harris administration planned to drain the reserves put in place by the Biden Administration, that at the time, liberals like Harris critiqued:

“I want to address another challenge that families are facing, and the one I think they’re most focused on right now: high gas prices,” Biden said during his live remarks.

“I’m announcing that the largest ever release from the U.S. strategic petroleum reserve to help provide the supply we need as we recover from this pandemic.”

Biden and Harris’ change in opinion was not lost on Republican leaders, such as House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) who tweeted about the incident:

“Vice President Kamala Harris opposed President Trump’s decision to fill America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve—the very reserve that President Biden is exploiting for political convenience today. Utter hypocrisy.”
