Remember how hard former President Donald Trump’s critics in Congress went after him with the ridiculous “kids in cages” nonsense concerning young, illegal immigrant detainees?
According to The Hill, President Joe Biden is facing similar criticism, with one of the primary differences being that the mainstream media and Democrats are calling his version “shelters for young migrants.” Either way, he’s taking a public relations beating and because of that, he was seemingly forced to admit that though they’re open for now, the shelters “won’t stay open very long.”
The Carrizo Springs, Texas-based migrant holding facilities were recently reopened to accommodate illegal immigrant minors. Facilities that would typically take in these migrants were ordered to reduce capacity due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the new administration to take alternative measures.
But when pressed on the temporary holding facilities, Biden assured reporters and critics of the situation, like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) that what his administration is doing is different than what his predecessor did.
“Our hope and expectation is that won’t stay open very long, that we’ll be able to provide for every kid who comes across the border safely to be housed in a facility that’s licensed,” Biden said in a recent Univision interview.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki did a recent appearance on “The View” in what seemed like an attempt to calm fears that Biden isn’t going to be the monster that Trump was reported to be, as the former president was accused of “ripping” kids from their parents’ arms in the exact same situation.
“In the time of COVID, that means we needed to open an additional facility so that we could have educational services, so that we could have legal services, so that we could have medical and health services and have those kids there, treated humanly, until we can find proper homes, family placements for these kids,” Psaki said.
Luckily for the Biden administration, they have most of the mainstream media leaning toward their side to provide cover. But if illegal immigrant minors keep pouring across the border as they have been over the past several weeks, the Biden admin might soon face obstacles that they won’t know how to overcome.
