President Joe Biden has done so much damage to the U.S. in less than seven months in office. However, his latest blunder has left the whole world in a precarious position.
Biden’s sudden and swift withdrawal from Afghanistan has put the nation right back into the hands of the Taliban, Breitbart reported. Despite initially hiding out at his Camp David vacation spot, the president finally took responsibility for his foreign policy crisis.
“The truth is this did unfold more quickly than anticipated,” Biden admitted from the White House Monday. However, Biden also tempered that admission with other rhetoric about the mission being accomplished in Afghanistan while also blaming former President Donald Trump.
“We went to Afghanistan almost 20 years ago with clear goals: get those who attacked us on September 11th, 2001, and make sure al Qaeda could not use Afghanistan as a base from which to attack us again,” Biden explained. “We did that. We severely degraded al Qaeda in Afghanistan. We never gave up the hunt for Osama bin Laden, and we got him. That was a decade ago,” he said.
“Our mission in Afghanistan was never supposed to have been nation-building,” the president claimed. “It was never supposed to be creating a unified, centralized democracy.”
He went on to explain he felt it was time to pull the plug on the operation, squandering in days what it took America decades to put in place. “I will not mislead the American people by claiming that just a little more time in Afghanistan will make all the difference,” Biden said. “Nor will I shrink from my share of responsibility for where we are today and how we must move forward from here,” the president claimed.
“I am President of the United States of America, and the buck stops with me,” Biden said. However, he’d stated earlier that Trump had already reduced the number of troops there, making it seems as though he was forced to continue the policy.
“The choice I had to make, as your President, was either to follow through on that agreement or be prepared to go back to fighting the Taliban in the middle of the spring fighting season,” Biden claimed. This seems to be the one policy of Trump’s he wasn’t eager to reverse.
No matter how he tries to spin it, Biden owns every bit of this disaster. He pulled American troops out of the country and announced he would be doing so, giving the Taliban plenty of notice when the time would be right to sweep back into power. The repercussions of this will be felt around the world for a long time to come as Afghanistan once again becomes an incubator for violent Islamic extremists.
