Biden administration signals that there will be no challenge to court decision striking down federal mask mandate

A federal judge made waves after finally overturning the mask mandate for public transportation. What’s most shocking is what President Joe Biden’s administration has said about it.

The Biden administration confirmed that the judge’s decision ending mask mandates for airports, airplanes, buses, trains, and more, is enough to lift the requirement, the Daily Caller reported. This is one of the last federal COVID-19 mitigation measures to be abolished.

Florida District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle of Florida’s middle district ruled Monday that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevent mandate was an overreach by the government agency.  After the announcement, the Biden administration promised to review the situation but stressed that the decision stands.

“The agencies are reviewing the decision and assessing potential next steps,” a statement from the administration said. “In the meantime, today’s court decision means CDC’s public transportation masking order is not in effect at this time.”

“Therefore,” the statement continued, “TSA will not enforce its Security Directives and Emergency Amendment requiring mask use on public transportation and transportation hubs at this time. CDC recommends that people continue to wear masks in indoor public transportation settings,” the administration concluded.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki dodged the question when asked at a briefing about the administration’s intentions to pursue further action to keep the mandate in effect. “We’re continuing to recommend people wear masks. I don’t have any updates. This just came out,” Psaki told the press.

COVID-19 measures have been abolished nearly everywhere else, leaving the airline industry last to fight the battle. “Now is the time for the Administration to sunset federal transportation travel restrictions … that are no longer aligned with the realities of the current epidemiological environment,” the heads of JetBlue, American Airlines, Delta, Southwest, and others said in a letter last month.

Those who wish to mask will still be allowed to as they see fit. However, this recent ruling gives people the freedom to choose — and that’s all freedom-loving Americans have been asking for.
