A Biden administration rule will allow Americans to choose their gender on their passport without medical documentation, according to The Daily Wire.
The State Department announced the change on Wednesday saying that those who already have a passport can also request a different passport if they already have one with a gender they don’t prefer.
The new rule states that applicants “can now select the gender you would like printed on your U.S. passport, even if the gender you select does not match the gender on your supporting documentation such as a birth certificate, previous passport, or state ID.”
The rule change went on to specify that there does not need to be verified from a medical certification of any kind to change the mark on the passport.
“You can select “M” or “F” which are the gender markers currently available,” the State Department stated, going on to say that they will soon be adding additional options to the official documents:
“We are working to add a gender marker for non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming persons as soon as possible.”
Activist news site The 19th backed up an ACLU claim that Americans will soon be able to mark just “X” as an option for their gender.
“According to a source within the administration, nonbinary Americans are expected to be able to obtain the interim X gender markers by the end of the year.”
It’s unclear whether this was a widely requested change or if the Biden administration needed a win within the far-left community and chose to allow this to serve as their renewed dedication to the progressive agenda.
