Biden admin secures abortion access for unaccompanied minors

President Joe Biden and his administration made a disturbing decision last week for an even more disturbing problem: Abortion access for unaccompanied minors at the southern U.S. border.

According to The Washington Free Beacon, the Biden administration issued a directive that said unaccompanied minors should be taken to "abortion sanctuary" states to ensure they're able to terminate the lives of their unborn children.

The directive comes in the wake of the overturning of Roe v. Wade earlier this year.

The Free Beacon added, "The U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) in guidance issued to staff also said that girls who are sheltered in states such as Texas that ban abortion and request abortion services should be transferred to states that allow the procedure."

A real problem

Aside from all of the other horrendous things a child experiences in the treacherous march to the southern U.S. border, many children, especially females, are routinely sexually assaulted.

"This Field Guidance confirms that ORR [Office of Refugee Resettlement] staff and care providers must not prevent UC [Unaccompanied Children] from accessing legal abortion-related services and that ORR staff and care providers must make all reasonable efforts to facilitate access to these services if requested by the UC. This may involve transporting a minor to a state in which abortion is lawful and available, if the minor is currently in a state in which abortion is not lawful or available," the memo read.

The issue is clearly large enough to grab the administration's attention, but it's still unknown how many pregnant unaccompanied minors the U.S. has in custody.

Long-term issues

Aside from the horrors of the abortion procedure, experts say that children exposed to the sexual assaults that resulted in the pregnancies will likely be traumatized for life.

"Violence has detrimental effects by merely being a witness to it. Whether the children witness it with their eyes tightly closed, the sounds of a predator preying on anyone will haunt them forever," a former DHS official told the Daily Caller.

They added, "There are a lack of consequences for those that victimize migrants throughout their journey. Migrants are victimized from every level of criminal to officials abusing their authority."

What a total disaster. We have to do better than this, but that likely won't begin to happen until at least 2024.
