Beto O'Rourke refuses to answer on whether he will confiscate AR-15's

Failed Senate and presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke is too radical to win national office. Now remarks he made regarding gun control have come back to haunt him as he vies for Texas governor.

O'Rourke will not answer whether or not he will confiscate AR-15 rifles despite previous claims that he would, Breitbart reported. The Texas Democrat was pressed on the issue during a gubernatorial debate Friday.

In the run-up to the 2020 presidential election, O'Rourke took a hard line on gun control. "Hell yes, we're going to take your AR-15," he said in a September 2019 debate.

That line didn't play well nationally, and certainly not in the Lone Star state. Perhaps that's what led to O'Rourke insisting the was "not interested in taking anything from anyone" during a February 2022 appearance in Tyler, Texas, as O'Rourke made his play for the governorship.

The moderator at Friday's debate asked which was his current stance given the conflicting statements. O'Rourke's attempt at circumlocution took him through ramblings about raising the legal age from 18 to 21 for long guns as well as implementing universal background checks and red flag laws.

However, the moderator was undeterred at pinning him down to one position on confiscation. "Just to be clear, yes or no, are you for confiscating AR-15-sytle weapons?"

O'Rourke again avoided giving a definitive answer and instead opted for more political nonsense. "I am for making sure that we make progress," he claimed.

Regardless of whether or not he answered this time, O'Rourke has a track record for progressive attitudes on the issue of firearms. During a conference on May 25 that came a day after the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting, O'Rourke staged a political stunt by going after Gov. Greg Abbott on the issue, telling him, "This is on you."

O'Rourke can try to back away from his radical policies all he wants, but it won't work. He's known as a progressive in favor of gun confiscation, and there's no forgetting that in Texas.
