AOC attacks Biden admin over decision to reopen holding facilities for migrant children

Democrat New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) attacked the Biden administration as news has been released he has authorized the reopening of a Texas child migrant detention facility.

According to The Washington Post, the Carrizo Springs, Texas, center is being prepared to accommodate up to 700 minor teenagers from outside of the US. The move follows accommodations reaching capacity limits at other area locations.

The report marks a shift to Biden’s past statements. In 2019, the president told lawmakers he would end all child migrant detention.

AOC has tweeted, “This is not okay, never has been okay, never will be okay – no matter the administration or party.” Her accusation clearly indicates the conflict among Democrats, including many deeply devoted to immigration reform.

“Our immigration system is built on a carceral framework,” AOC added in another tweet. “It’s no accident that challenging how we approach both these issues are considered ‘controversial’ stances. They require reimagining our relationship to each other and challenging common assumptions we take for granted.”

A White House spokesperson told Fox News, “The President’s approach is to deal with immigration comprehensively, fairly and humanely. The policy of this administration is not to expel unaccompanied children who arrive at our borders.”

Yet everything is not as tidy as the White House makes it seem. The real mess has already begun, as Biden’s executive orders have led to increased illegal border crossings that will naturally max out current detention centers.

The answer is not whether to put “kids in cages” or not. It’s allowing immigrants into the United States in a legal manner and enforcing the rules when people break them.

America is a nation of laws. If the Biden administration keeps changing them or refuses to enforce them, we’ll need more than one child migrant detention center to hold them all.
