A growing number of Americans agree that a new Democrat should take the place of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) as House Speaker, according to an Economist/YouGov survey released this week.
“Do you think Nancy Pelosi should remain as the leader of the Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives or do you think it should be some other Democrat?” respondents were asked.
Nearly half, 47 percent, answered “some other Democrat.” Another 18 percent said they were unsure, 15 percent “don’t care” and just 20 percent agreed Pelosi should remain leader.
Pelosi has faced several recent controversies that may have influenced the survey.
Podcaster Joe Rogan recently called out Pelosi over her views on lawmakers holding stocks and issues of insider trading.

Pelosi has also faced controversy over her Jan. 6 committee’s handling of sensitive information that has included reading the private text messages of Americans.
The view of Pelosi is also impacted by President Joe Biden’s overall performance. The president’s approval ratings have continued to fall in recent weeks, hitting severe lows for a first-year president.
The combination of factors has led to concerns over whether Pelosi will still be House Speaker after the midterm elections, as Republicans seek to win back power in the House.
