Amazon union organizer blasts AOC for going ‘radio silent’ until after their victory

An organizer for the Amazon union called out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for her conspicuous silence on their efforts to unionize while the fight was ongoing, according to Fox News.

According to the organizer, the “democratic socialist” representative from New York was “radio silent” as workers from the Jeff Bezo-owned company out of Staten Island fought hard to establish their own union.

The company’s employees voted in favor of unionizing last week in what is the first vote of its kind in the corporation’s decades-long history, according to a Fox News report.

One of the group’s organizers, Connor Spence, was asked by progressive media outlet Status Coup News why he believed Democrats were silent while they were forming their union:

“I think it’s just that our campaign and our model was such a long shot, they saw it as risky to even associate with us,” Spence told Status Coup News co-founder Jordan Chariton on Friday.

“Because at the end of the day, they are politicians as much as they, you know, say that they’re on the side of the workers, they have to prioritize getting reelected and all that stuff.”

When asked specifically about Ocasio-Cortez bailing on the pro-union rally last August that she was committed to attend, the organizer said that she “went radio silent for six months after that and didn’t show a word for us until it was clear that we were gonna win.”

The advocate stressed “we are an apolitical union,” and they “don’t want to be reliant on political outsiders” though it “would have helped” given their large platforms that could benefit the effort with more publicity and donations.
