Alvin Bragg sues Rep. Jim Jordan to prevent subpoena of former colleague

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) clearly put fear into Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, filing suit to keep the GOP chairman from investigating his indictment of former President Donald Trump.

According to Fox News, Bragg sued the Republican this week in an attempt to secure a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against Jordan's subpoena of Mark Pomerantz, who was formerly in charge of the Trump investigation.

Fox noted:

In recent weeks, the Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena seeking testimony from a former prosecutor, Mark Pomerantz, who previously oversaw the Trump investigation. The committee has also sought documents and testimony about the case from Bragg and his office. Bragg has rejected those requests.

Bragg claimed that he was forced to take legal action "in response to an unprecedently brazen and unconstitutional attack by members of Congress on an ongoing New York State criminal prosecution and investigation of former President Donald J. Trump."

"Chairman Jordan's subpoena is an unconstitutional attempt to undermine an ongoing New York felony criminal prosecution and investigation," Bragg said.

He added: "As our complaint details, this is an unprecedented, illegitimate interference by Congress that lacks any legal merit and defies basic principles of federalism."

Bragg, in his filings insisted that his indictment of Trump was not political in nature, which is difficult for any reasonable person to believe given that he literally campaigned with the goal of "getting Trump."

"The Manhattan D.A.'s Office focuses on the law and the evidence, not political gamesmanship or threats. We look forward to presenting our case in court to enjoin enforcement of the subpoena," Bragg said.

Chairman Jordan tweeted his thoughts on the unexpected development.

"First, they indict a president for no crime. Then, they sue to block congressional oversight when we ask questions about the federal funds they say they used to do it," Jordan tweeted.

In a major blow to Bragg's crumbling reputation as a prosecutor, a federal judge on Tuesday quickly tossed out the idea of Bragg securing a TRO blocking the subpoena on the very same day it was filed, according to JustTheNews.

"The Court declines to enter the proposed Temporary Restraining Order and Order to Show Cause," U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil, a Trump appointee, ruled on Tuesday evening.

If Bragg had a shred of integrity and pride left, he'd exit this case immediately, or else he'll continue to be the laughingstock of the legal community, and the United States.
