Aerosmith's Steven Tyler faces a troubling sexual assault lawsuit

Rolling Stone reports that Steven Tyler, the frontman of Aerosmith, stands accused of the sexual assault of a minor.

Tyler's accuser is 65-year-old Julia Misley, also known as Julia Holcomb.

According to Rolling Stone, Holcomb has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles, California, accusing Tyler of sexual assault, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The incident stems from 1973 when Holcomb was only 16 years old.

Holcomb claims that she is the person about whom Tyler wrote in his memoir when he said that he "almost took a teen bride," adding, "her parents fell in love with me, signed a paper over for me to have custody, so I wouldn’t get arrested if I took her out of state. I took her on tour with me."

Rolling Stone reports:

Holcomb alleges that Tyler convinced Holcomb’s mother to grant him guardianship over her when she was 16 years old, which consequently allowed her to live with him and engage in a sexual relationship. She claims they were together from 1973 until about three years later.

Holcomb, in the lawsuit, says that she "was powerless to resist." She claims that Tyler got her pregnant in 1975 and forced her to have an abortion. It was after this, according to Holcomb, that she left Tyler, becoming a devout Catholic and an anti-abortion advocate.

Some of this may sound familiar. And, if it does, it is because Holcomb has been outspoken about this for many years.

Holcomb suggested that the reason why she has waited until now to bring a lawsuit has to do with the laws of California.

According to a statement received by Fox News, Holcomb "explained she was taking legal action due to California legislation that temporarily lifted the statute of limitations for victims of childhood sexual abuse to file lawsuits against their abusers."

Holcomb, along with her lawsuit, has put out a statement explaining what it is that she is looking to accomplish with it.

"I want this action to expose an industry that protects celebrity offenders, to cleanse and hold accountable an industry that both exploited and allowed me to be exploited for years, along with so many other naive and vulnerable kids and adults," Holcomb said.

She added, "Because I know that I am not the only one who suffered abuse in the music industry, I feel it is time for me to take this stand and bring this action, to speak up and stand in solidarity with the other survivors."

Tyler, at the time of this writing, had yet to respond to the allegations.
