Hollywood is supposed to be the place where dreams come true. However, the actors who make it there sometimes end up in their own nightmares.
Actress Anne Heche is in critical condition after crashing her Mini Cooper into a house on Friday, Fox News reported. The 53-year-old “Six Days Seven Nights” star suffered severe burns and remains intubated at the hospital.
Heche’s car careened into a two-story Mar Vista, California, house and sparked a fire. There was one occupant was in the house at the time who sustained no injuries.
However, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the call and had a difficult time getting the blaze under control. “Fifty-nine firefighters took 65 minutes to access, confine and fully extinguish the stubborn flames within the heavily damaged structure and rescued one female adult found within the vehicle who has been taken to an area hospital by LAFD Paramedics in critical condition,” the department said in a statement.
Footage from the scene showed Heche being wheeled out on a gurney wrapped in a white sheet. To prevent infection and soothe burns, victims are often wrapped in sterile sheets that can be doused with sterile water. Just before being put into an ambulance, Heche abruptly emerged from the sheet and sat up.
Shortly before her firey crash, Heche had reportedly run into the garage of a nearby apartment complex. Witnesses said Heche fled the scene before they had an opportunity to help her.
Doctors were unable to test the “Volcano” actress for drugs or alcohol due to her severe condition. However, Heche has a history of mental illness and erratic behavior related to drug use, according to an ABC News report following an incident in 2000.
Heche’s condition is severe and could leave her with life-changing scars and injuries. Although Hollywood provides the chosen few with an opportunity for fame and fortune, it comes at a price for some like Heche.
