Although it can be rare in certain age groups, cancer can strike anyone at any age. Actress and singer Rachel Zegler nearly found this out the hard way.
Zegler recently opened up about a breast cancer scare she experienced when she was 19, the Daily Caller reported. The now 21-year-old "West Side Story" star told fans about her ordeal in an Instagram Stories post Saturday.
"Two years ago, I found a lump in my breast and went through what was undoubtedly the scariest week of my life," Zegler star's Instagram Stories post began. Zegler shared a photo of a small scar left behind from the diagnostic procedure that would ultimately issue her a clean bill of health.
"And now the scar serves as a reminder to check my breasts regularly for any irregular growth – the fibroadenoma in my left breast is a common occurrence but nevertheless extremely scary to find," Zegler noted. "Early detection saves lives!!!" Zegler said before concluding with a humorous reference to her breast "meat."
This is not the first time that the "Snow White" actress has opened up about her personal struggles. Before she was a household name, Zegler used a social media post to share about her mental health struggles.
"Hello. My name is Rachel," Zegler tweeted in 2018 from her social media account that also features "she/her" pronouns. "I suffer from anxiety and depression, and occasionally feel depersonalized/disassociated from reality," she said.
"I am a work in progress," Zegler wrote. "I am finding the common ground between me and my mind. And that's enough. But please, ask if I'm okay. #EndTheStigma" the young starlet-to-be urged.
