Actor Jeremy Renner hospitalized after accident with snow plow

Actor Jeremy Renner remains hospitalized after an accident involving a snow plow he was operating on New Year's Day, the Washington Examiner reported. Newly released footage shows the 51-year-old "Hawkeye" star being airlifted from the snowy area near his Tahoe home.

A New Year's Eve winter storm brought significant snowfall to the area in Nevada where he and his family spent the holiday. Renner had gone about a half mile from his home to plow the road so his family could safely leave.

However, something went wrong, and Renner ended up with significant injuries. A neighbor said Renner ran over one of his own legs with the machine and began to bleed heavily.

Another one of Renner's neighbors is a doctor and was able to begin treating the wound at the scene by applying a tourniquet to his leg. The "Mayor of Kingstown" star was airlifted to a hospital for treatment Monday morning, where he remains in critical condition, Fox News reported.

"We can confirm that Jeremy has suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and has undergone surgery today, January 2nd, 2023," a representative for Renner said. "He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition."

"Jeremy's family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families," the statement went on. "They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans."

In 2019, Renner told a local news outlet that he chose a home in Washoe County to enjoy skiing with his family. Located on the outskirts of Reno, the area is full of natural beauty but not too remote, as evidenced by the quick response during Renner's ordeal.

"At approximately 9:00 am on January 1, 2023, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a traumatic injury in the area of Mt. Rose Highway in Reno, Nevada," a news release from the sheriff's office said. "Upon arrival, Deputies coordinated with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and REMSA Health to arrange for medical transport of Mr. Jeremy Renner via care flight to a local area hospital," it added.

"Mr. Renner was the only involved party in the incident," the sheriff's office noted. His prognosis remains unknown, but many in Hollywood expressed support for Renner on his road to recovery.

James Gunn, director of "Guardians of the Galaxy" and co-chairman for DC Studios, tweeted his well-wishes. "My heart is with @JeremyRenner." Actor Josh Gad also expressed his concern in a tweet, "My God. Praying for @JeremyRenner and his family."

Renner rose to fame with back-to-back Academy Awards nominations, though he has yet to win an Oscar. Renner won critical and audience acclaim for his portrayal of a bomb disposal specialist during the Iraq War in the 2009 war thriller "The Hurt Locker."

His second nod came from "The Town," a crime drama co-starring Ben Affleck. However, Renner found his most sustaining role as Hawkeye beginning in the 2012 Marvel film, "The Avengers."

The actor reprised his role in sequels and was able to parlay it into starring in the Disney+ series, "Hawkeye." Renner plays the titular character who uses trick arrows to thwart his foes.

Renner's injuries may not be fatal, but they could be career-ending. He and his family need all of the prayers they can get for a speedy and full recovery.
