Fox News reports that Costa Titch, the South African rapper, has died after collapsing on stage. 

He was 28 years old.

A statement announcing Costa Titch's passing was posted to his Instagram Account by his family on Sunday.

The statement reads:

Death has tragically knocked at our door. Robbing us of our beloved son, brother, and grandson. Constantinos Tsobanoglou (28), whom South Africa had come to love and idolize under his stage name "Costa Titch." It is with deep pain that we find ourselves having to acknowledge his passing at this time.

According to Rolling Stone, Costa Titch was performing on stage at the Nasrec Expo Center when he suddenly fell over. He was able to get back on his feet for a moment, but then he collapsed for a second and final time.

A cause of death has yet to be released. An investigation of the situation is underway.

Ultra Music Festival South Africa organizers released a statement in which they expressed their devastation following Costa Tich's passing. They write:

We are devastated by the sudden lose of the beloved South African artist Costa Titch, who tragically passed away this weekend. Costa was a galvanizing voice amongst South Africa’s amapiano scene – a talented rapper, dancer, songwriter, collaborator and friend to the festival. Our deepest thoughts and most sincere sympathies are with his family, friends, and out entire community who are together mourning this heartbreaking loss.

Costa Titch's career, at the time of his passing, was really beginning to gain momentum. He particularly became well-known in Africa following the release of the song "Big Flexa."

According to CNN, Costa Titch was known for "amapiano, a style of music characterized by deep house, log-drum driven basslines, and soulful piano melodies."

"His rap style combines South Africa’s culture, style, and indigenous languages with international rap sub-genres like trap music, which originated in Atlanta’s thriving hip-hop scene," the outlet adds.

Costa Titch's family, in their statement announcing his passing, thanked "emergency responders and all those present in his last hours on this earth."

"The Tsobanoglou family thanks you for the love and support you have given to our son and may you continue to uplift him even in spirit," they write. "Please keep up in your prayers and uplifted in the Lord."
